I've heard and read for awhile about people saying 'No' to receipts which you control if they get printed
or not. Pushing 'No' when asked 'Would you like a receipt?" not only saves paper, but it also reduces the chance the receipt will end up
as litter.
The two best examples of where to say 'No" is at ATMs and gas stations
pumps.
In the past, I would have a receipt printed for every transaction and my wallet ended up being filled with receipts that I
didn't even need. I regularly check my bank statement online so I've seen that printing out
a receipt has become a waste. I've been saying 'No' for a few weeks now. So far so good.
There are approximately 8 billion ATM transactions in the United States every year.
According to Market Watch, if everyone in the United States would select the no-receipt
option at the ATM, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the
equator 15 times. Some hotels and other companies are now giving the option of receiving your receipt via e-mail rather than a printed one.
Good for those companies for thinking ahead and thinking of the environment.
Just Say 'No' and save some trees.
